Kit

Players must wear the correct kit

U8s do not need to wear Club kit for training or bring a stick, although you are welcome to buy Club kit if you wish.

The Club is a community club and it is important that we present the same image to all members.  Players should wear Club kit at training sessions and when representing the Club in matches.  We actively discourage the wearing of school and other Club clothing with distinctive branding, badges and colour to training. Club kit can be purchased from Academy Sport (click here). http://www.academyshop.co.uk A pair of gloves and a hat are handy on chilly evenings too.

In accordance with England Hockey guidance, it is compulsory for all players, including U8s, to wear shin pads and gum shields to training and matches/festivals. Hockey is not a contact sport but the ball can fly around at speed and sticks are swung in all directions. Shins, teeth and gums need to be protected. It is also recommended that children wear face masks if involved in short corner routines. The Club owns some face masks, however we cannot guarantee that they will be available for your child and the Club cannot accept any responsibility for their use or none use.

Shin pads and gum shields are available from all reputable sports shops. You may also purchase custom made and fitted gum shields from you dentist. England Hockey recommends that all gum shields should be shock absorbable and replaced each year.

Any player who turns up to training or a match/festival without their gum shield and/or shin pads, will be unable to play.

Safeguarding at training

We're responsible for players when they're on the pitch

Players should line up by the pitch five minutes before the start of training, with their gum shields, shin pads, sticks and water. It would also be really helpful if players visit the bathroom before heading out on the pitch. Coaches are unable to accompany players to the toilet during training or matches. The Club is not responsible for any child who is on a pitch, (eg. before training starts) and has not obtained permission from a coach or Club official to be there.

Due to the number and age of our players we do not have the resource to supervise them whilst they are not on the pitch in training. Players left unsupervised in the Balcarras Pavilion or elsewhere off pitch, at all sites, are left at your own risk.

Safeguarding at matches

We’re lucky to have so many players turning out to represent the Club in matches. Please remember that the Club is only responsible for your child whilst they are on the pitch. If you are not able to be present, please ensure that you have arranged for another adult to be responsible for your child in your absence. The team manager needs to be made aware of who is responsible for your child, in case of an emergency.
